Oh yeah. Very familiar with Corona Del Mar. It is the official line in the sand between douchebag-ville (to the north) and heaven (to the south). I am a south Orange County guy; north is just too busy for my liking.
In the picture below, you will see two jetties creating a channel separating access into Newport Harbor. When the waves come in from north swells, they carom off of the jetty and create a very unique situation where the wave “wedges” into a caromed wave, making the wave jump and get huge.
It’s a short ride so it is a skimboarding, body surfing & body boarding break, but it is pretty nuts nonetheless, as you can see below. These guys and girls are riding 30 foot waves sometimes over 6 inches of water. I’ve seen people eat shit here more time than I can count. The Wedge, Newport Beach, CA:
