Why do I hate country music? Well, “hate” is a strong word. I love Johnny Cash and some older country songs from other country musicians, so saying I hate country music is not really accurate.
I grew up listening to rock, punk, ska, hip hop, rap, and other genres. Country Music was just one genre that made me scratch my head and think “Why? Why would anyone listen to this shit?”. I like Janes Addiction, Tool, and Tupac – it’s kind of a hard dropoff from that to Toby Keith.
If I had to pinpoint it, I’d say I don’t like the lack of good bass guitar, the twangy nature of the acoustic chords, and the accents in the male vocalists, though the female accents sound good to me. It’s just a preference I suppose. Overall, the country music I like doesn’t really sound like country music as much as it does rockabilly or acoustic classic rock.
Rock music is just all passion and rebellion. It is an art form and it speaks to a person’s soul. It is pure emotion when done right. I am sure some country is that way for some people, but to me, I just don’t get it.
Sorry country fans. No offense but I am 100% all rock and roll. I’ll give your recommendations a shot though, anonymous. You may change my opinion like the last person did.
